From the Pastor

Passionate Lord—
we trace your steps to
Jerusalem’s acclaim;
they shout your name;
disciples glory in your
fame.

Focused Lord—
we follow your gaze
past fame’s meteoric blaze
and the crowd’s messianic,
harmonic turn of
phrase.

Gentle Lord—
we taste the meal,
feel your soothing grace
that makes your presence real;
in fear and awe we come and
kneel.

Holy Lord—
we too are scattered
as all hope hangs, seemingly
shattered, and we
too-easily abandon all that
mattered.

Sacrificed Lord—
we mouth platitudes
more readily than we
embrace attitudes of
humility and live out our
gratitude.

Risen Lord—
we worship, daring to believe
the empty cross and the tomb you leave;
to wondrous mystery we cleave as
faith trusts the Divine
reprieve.

Easter Blessings,
Pastor Don

News and Notes

Thank You!

Thank You!Thank you for the generous Gift of Love this year.  It is truly a joy and a blessing to be able to participate in worship here at Trinity.  Thanks again!

Thank you to Pat Brunner’s brother, David Rice, for the AWESOME job on the new kitchen cabinets. (Have you checked them out yet?) Great job, David!

***

A huge thank you to Bob Heckel, who has been faithfully mowing the lawn and keeping the grass edged and doing a fantastic job.

Elementary School Principal Opening
Faith Lutheran School in Lacey, Washington is accepting applications for a full-time elementary school principal.  The school's enrollment is approximately 150 students, preschool through sixth grade.  Interested candidates may obtain more information by calling Faith Lutheran's school office at (360) 491-1733 or by sending an e-mail to faithprincipal@comcast.net

Property Update
As noted above, Bob Heckel has been mowing and edging Trinity’s property.  He finds it necessary to retire due to his knees; so, we are looking for volunteers to mow the lawn.  Our idea is to have enough volunteers to mow only once a month. The lawn mower is easy to use and  mulches; so, it doesn't have a bag to be emptied.  Please contact Mark Meyer or Joan Hamada if you would be willing to help with keeping the lawn looking good.

Please bring a non-fragrant plant for decorating the altar on Easter Sunday.

An Update on Arleen Loewen!
I thought I’d share some great, almost miraculous, news about Arleen Loewen. Most of you know that Arleen fell while on a walk over a year ago, striking her head on the pavement.  She sustained what, based on MRI’s and the like, should have been a bump and cut, but not an ‘impairing’ injury.  Nevertheless, she was non-responsive and could not swallow or feed herself.  She has been in care centers ever since, on a continuous-feed tube, and remaining essentially non-responsive.  Arleen is now at Crista Ministries Nursing Home at 193rd and Fremont.  Since the first of January, Arleen has not only become alert and responsive, but she knows who folks are (even me!), can converse with them, and now feeds herself; so, she no longer needs to be on the feeding tube.  There is a bit of lag between speaking to Arleen and receiving a response, but only 5 seconds or so.  It really seems miraculous.  If you know Arleen and have a chance to visit her, I’m sure she would love to chat with you!  Rejoice in the Lord for all His many kindnesses.

Meyer Minutes
I spent each of the daily devotions during National Lutheran Schools Week (March 4 – 11) trying to figure out the toy transformer I brought in to serve as the object lesson for the week. Have you ever tried to maneuver one of those toys? I was lucky to be surrounded by professional transformer authorities who could help me out. I realized throughout this learning process that we all need each other. The theme for the week was transform, but I was not and am not able to change without your help and the help of the students at Concordia. The toy was a great reminder that we are not on this journey of transformation alone, that we need to help each other do so.

Lutheran Schools Week ended with the fantastic Fiesta Auction, which served as a beautiful reminder to all of us that we are not alone as we build and grow here at Concordia. Alumni, friends, staff, parents, current students, pastors, and parishioners participated in the transformation process that has been alive in this place for 102 years. It was an amazing feeling to look out and see everyone together in one place, sharing His love.

I would like especially to thank all the congregation members who attended the Auction and unstintingly supported Concordia. The Auction coordinators have pronounced this year’s Auction a financial success, which would have been impossible without the strong support of our association churches. Over 200 of you came to our Auction! And, not only did you come, but you generously shared your gifts with the school. The average amount of money raised per student at a school auction is $200: at this year’s Fiesta Auction, we raised over $800 per student! Our 2 Fund-An-Item items—the SRA Reading Curriculum and Physical Education Equipment—raised $10,000, helping to realize mental and physical goals we have set for our students. I would also like to extend my heart-felt gratitude to everyone who bought Auction items or who made a donation in lieu of being able to attend.

I’d like to give big THANK YOU to current/former Concordia parents and association church members Cheryl Kohring, Shelly Wetter, and Kim Johnson, who put together the unforgettable transforming evening we all shared at the Auction.

In Him,
Dave

Mission Trip to Brazil
After a successful mission to Nicaragua last summer, campus counselor Terry McGlasson has decided to lead a second mission, with a student team of sixteen, to Cariacica, Brazil May 25 - June 2, 2007. The group plans to partner with churches in the Cariacica area to build relationships and share the love of Christ with the people in their communities through innovative programming designed to reach both young people and their parents. The team is in need of a prayer support team and help with financial responsibilities as each team member is required to raise their own funding totaling nearly $2500 per person. Terry and his team would appreciate any consideration of area churches to become a partner in their endeavor and welcome the opportunity to send a team to your church, to explain more, and to share their vision with you and your congregation. Terry can be contacted by email at tmcglasson@cu-portland.edu or by phone at 503-493-6545.
