From the Pastor

WOW! Once in a while one realizes the tremendous blessing of the community of faith here at Trinity/The Chapel. Our Trinity congregational meeting on June 11 was one of those times. I continue to be amazed at the variety of gifts the Holy Spirit has intentionally gathered together here. The Gifts of the Spirit are the people of God. Along with the gifts, the Holy Spirit has granted passion and compassion; devotion to mission; and ‘the motion of emotion.’ By the latter I mean not just talking about mission, but doing that mission with passion.

We were passionate in our conversation about the possibilities and concerns at Concordia Lutheran School. We were passionate in our permission to one another to ask questions and even to disagree. And, in the end, we were passionate in our unity of support for the vision and mission that Concordia continues to capture under the leadership of Dave Meyer.

We were passionate in our understanding of how the world changes, the context for doing our ministry here at Trinity, and how that requires at this time a new way of organizing the congregation for that ministry. If you blinked you might have missed the passion, because the proposal passed so quickly! But there was passion in that ‘motion of emotion.’ There was the unity of a community of faith still bold enough to trust that God has significant work for us to do in this city.

Our ‘motion of emotion’ has also moved many of us to passionately embrace the opportunity to minister concretely (literally for some of us!) to others by joining in the Thrivent/Habitat build. We have caught Chris Sherman’s contagious passion, and we follow his leadership to Judson Park.

As we slide into summer, keep up the passion. Keep up the ‘motion of emotion.’ Give voice to it; give shape to it in the unique way the Holy Spirit has gifted you for this ministry we share at Trinity. Recognize how unique you are as the Spirit’s gift, how perfectly He has fitted you together into this body of Christ at Trinity. WOW!

Summer Blessings,
Pastor Don Schatz

A Note from Dave Meyer
I was talking with a parent, a marketing consultant, at the rummage sale. He mentioned that we experience many forms of communication in our world and that the most captivating verbal communication for people starts with 6 words, “Let me tell you a story.” I do believe that we are linking the past and the future here at Concordia. I bear witness to the love that each of you bestows upon both this place and the people within its walls. I am frequently asked, “How can I help?” to which I respond, “Go tell your story; share with someone about your Concordia story and how God has worked in this place.” Please understand that everyone has a story. Yours might be different than mine, but it is still valuable and should be shared with someone. I believe that one of these links is what we have to establish to insure our future; so, share your stories about this place, and others will come to know about us and about Him.In Him,Dave Meyer

Trinity Collections

Did you know that Trinity collects items for various groups?  Here is a list of things you can bring.  Some donation bins are in the narthex.  The remainder are in the coat area downstairs.

Compass Center (http://www.compasscenter.org/)
The Compass Center serves homeless and low-income men and women over 18 years of age, a vulnerable and underserved population in Seattle and King County. It is a culturally and ethnically diverse population, consisting of individuals with varying strengths and needs.

Many come to the Compass Center having multiple issues including domestic abuse, mental illness, drug/alcohol dependence, poor employment histories, undeveloped employment skills, child custody or other legal issues, and poor or incomplete rental histories. Most individuals have no income or very low incomes; those served by our case management and shelter program have incomes below $7500/year. Client data indicates that 40% of the men served by the Compass Center are Veterans.

Blending compassion and caring with effective programs and unique services the people and programs at each of The Compass Center's locations promote dignity, self esteem, and respect for self and others. One-on-one case management identifies the issues that led to street life and helps each person set his or her own goals.

Lutheran World Relief (http://www.lwr.org/)

Since then, it has evolved from a relief agency shipping material resources to war-torn Europe to an agency that works with partners worldwide to respond to emergencies, seek lasting solutions to rural poverty, and work for peace and justice for all. LWR works to promote equity, strengthen organizational capacity, and empower communities to have a voice in decisions that affect their lives, while continually learning to increase our impact. Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, LWR works to reduce poverty and injustice by helping communities increase and expand the resources they need to live productive, healthy and empowered lives.
