From the Pastor

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I remember coming to Trinity as the “Pastorman” over 12 ˝ years ago.  Now I will be moving on to be the pastorman elsewhere.  The pastorman goes away and the pastor arrives through relationship.  Living together, working together, playing together, laughing together, crying together, struggling with one another at times, wrestling with the Lord together at times, envisioning, ‘mission-ing,’ living and growing together.  It is a significant work that the Spirit does between Pastor and congregation.

I will resist counting—baptisms, confirmations, weddings, funerals and the like.  It is relationships, not numbers, that matter in the end.  Our relationship as brothers and sisters in Christ remains, regardless of distance.  You will all always have a special place in my heart and the hearts of our family.  Our family has grown up here and begun to spread wings.  Two days after moving to Seattle, Miriam stated ardently, “I love Seattle.  I never want to live anywhere else.”  Yet, in the end, she was the first to leave!  But even for her, as it will continue to be for us, Seattle has been home.  Trinity has been home.

Thank you for your patience, for your understanding, for your kindness.  Thank you for the call in the first place.  How short a time ago it seems that Jim Courtney first phoned me at the office in Bellingham.

Soli Deo Gloria.  It must always be that only God receives the Glory.  I heard that from my hometown pastor at his retirement celebration.  Over the years I have begun to understand what he meant.  Soli Deo Gloria!

Blessings to you in Christ our Lord, our Brother and our Friend,
Pastor Don

News and Notes

Thank You!
We received a bequest from the estate of Minnie Korman for $4475 for the ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church.  As her step-daughter, Mona Quammen, put it, “Trinity held a special place in Minnie's heart for many of her 99 plus years.  The family thanks you for your prayers and concern during these later years.” Oscar and Minnie were long time members of Trinity.

Dear Pastor Don & Congregation,We just wanted to thank you for the opportunity to come and share our call to serve at Gospel for Asia. We enjoyed our fellowship with you all. We look forward to keeping in touch with you and please keep up in your prayers. We would also appreciate it if you would keep us in mind if ever an opportunity arises where Trinity is looking to support another mission outreach program. Until then, may the Lord continue to bless each and every one of you as you seek and serve Him.

In his service,
Ron & Chris

Community News

Meyer Minutes
The word was “Advocate.” My wife leaned over to whisper in my ear during the beginning of the sermon on Sunday. “Advocate, I never thought of Christ as my advocate.” This began my mind strolling; I was trying to focus on the words of our preacher that morning, but “Advocate” kept distracting my mind.. My first thought was what is an advocate? Who are my advocates? What is the description of an advocate? A person who publicly supports or recommends positively is the definition given to me on my computer. I do know that there are many advocates of Concordia, and I am so thankful for all of you who take this approach to the ministry. He is my biggest advocate and Christ is our biggest Advocate here at Concordia. It is a terrific feeling to have advocates, but I do have to tell you it is an unbelievable feeling to know in my heart that Christ is my advocate and yours, too...

In Him,
Dave
